Outside of the UK British Food is often ridiculed as boring and tasteless. The truth is that British Food is now so diverse that it is no longer true to say that the national dish is “Fish and Chips”. Weather

Britain has very changeable weather but generally speaking the average temperature in the winter is around 5 degrees Celsius and 20 degree Celsius in summer although it is true to say it can be a lot warmer in the summer and colder in the winter. There are only very slight difference in temperature between the north and the south.

Politics

Britain is a democratic country with a constitutional monarchy. The Prime Minister holds the political power and is elected by the country on average once every 4 years. The monarch, HRH Queen Elizabeth II, is the official head of the country and the government but plays a more ceremonial role in these matters.

Travel

Britain has an extensive transportation network connecting all destinations by plane, train or bus. Students can often receive discounts when traveling round the UK on providing proof of their student status.

Cost of Living

The cost of living in Britain for a student will vary according to lifestyle. As a guide students are advised that they will need around 5000 pounds per year if they live outside of London and 6000 pounds per year if they live in or around London.

Generally speaking a student will need around 50 – 80 pounds per week for single room accommodation. 30 pounds per week for food if you are cooking and preparing your own food and a further 20 pounds per week should be put aside for other costs such as entertainment etc.
